You can still get links from infographics in 2020. A digital agency, using an example from its own practice, tells how to do this.
For each SEO team, the link building process is one of the priorities, the differences are only in the quality, quantity and characteristics of the niche.
In the article, the SEO London agency team shared their experience of obtaining links through outreach – an agreement with the site owners. This is not a new method of link building, but a working one – take it on board if you want to try to get links without buying. Further, the story on behalf of the agency.
One of the company’s projects is a niche site for job search, geography – USA. Organic traffic on the site was 2000 people per month + about 100 referral traffic. There were a number of landing pages that needed a nudge to move further up the top. The profile consisted of the following types of links:

Therefore, it was decided to start working on getting links using infographics.
How to get links from infographics in 4 steps
Step 1: Research and TK for the designer
The first mistake many make is choosing the wrong topic for infographics. Even the most creative and high-quality design without reference to keywords and topics will not work.
Therefore, you need to study the results for different informational keywords and determine which articles in the top lack visual design.
Next, let’s see if there are already infographics on the topic of your choice, and how they are designed. To do this, enter the “keyword” + infographics. An example similar to the one used in the case:
As an example, you can see that there are already quite a few infographics in this topic and they are in demand, but many of them are either poorly processed in terms of information, or are overloaded with texts.
Moreover, on many infographics the information was already very outdated, which gave the company a head start to outreach sites with fresh materials.
At this stage, the approximate structure and style will be clear.
We collect information
One of the basic rules is that infographics should be meaningful, with interesting and important facts, statistics. It will also be important to indicate the sources.
We form TK for design
The easiest way is to work with designers who have extensive experience in this area, but it was also important to convey the basic rules:
- Infographics are not just a canvas of text mixed with pictures. This information is presented in a visual format: in the form of illustrations, charts, and so on. Therefore, our designer was given a task in the form of collected statistics + examples of visual display.
- A clear, consistent structure was prescribed with large headlines, a link to the site was added, plus a brand was indicated. By the time the assignment was handed over, the texts had already been approved.
- We determined the color scheme, which clearly corresponded to the main colors of our site.
- Selected examples of bad designs to avoid.
- We agreed that the finished infographics must be issued in a format that will make it possible to make changes in the text in the future by updating the data.
Step 2: social media and the simplest placements
The infographics are ready. It’s time for the world to see her.
We had this plan:
- Posting on your blog. Under the infographics, they created a thematic article that expanded on the issue. Almost all the work was done at the stage of collecting information for the design and text.
- Posting in their profiles on social networks + sharing by thematic groups.
- Placement on sites for infographics.
- Placing pictures on sites.

Every time we post, we add a good, rich description containing keywords and, of course, a link to our site.
Also, if you work in parallel with guest posts, then you can add this infographic as an addition with a postscript that to use the infographic, you need to link to site.com.
After doing this work, with the right approach, your infographics will be added to their articles with a link to you.
Step 3: outreach
At the stage when we were choosing the main keyword for the infographic, we have already started collecting a database of sites that could be of interest to our infographics:
- articles on the same topic, which can be supplemented with an informative visual element;
- just themed blogs and platforms.
As a result, three top niche bloggers posted the infographic for free. This was a very cool result for us, since we had knocked on them earlier with other types of collaborations, but to no avail. Ten more sites have added infographics to their blog. There were sites that shared these articles on their social profiles, or launched an e-mail newsletter, and this gave more conversions than standard placements.
Step 4: Squeeze the Maximum – Restore Justice
In addition to your efforts, infographics will be placed on other sites without linking to the site. Therefore, the task is to find such sites and ask to refer to you as a source.
To find such resources, we use the Google image search function.
- The site got 100+ natural links from relevant sites. The screen with referring domains from the beginning of the article shows how, after the subsidence, the growth of links began:
- The infographic was printed in large format and placed at the career center of a university in Japan. Since students of foreign universities are also our target audience, three to five orders were received monthly from university students. Other orders from this region are believed to have been due to recommendations.
- Infographics were actively shared on social networks and received targeted traffic from there. Traffic from Pinterest alone increased 70%.
- Links from infographics were gradually added without our work. After the termination of work on popularizing infographics throughout the year, we continue to receive backlinks and brand mentions.
